Exterminating Termites

Termites cause up to 5 billion dollars in annual damage in America with an average termite infestation exceeding $8,000 for treatment and repairs. This is made worse because damage will go unnoticed without professional help until a termite colony reaches full maturity, and signs of a full-blown infestation are much more recognizable. This is why it is critical to protect your home with ongoing termite control services and monitoring to catch and prevent termite problems before they start.

Over 40 different types of termites exist in the United States which can cause damages in different ways depending on the termite. Drywood termites will swarm areas of the home that are dry while dampwood termites are generally found in areas that are close to sources of water. Subterranean termites can be some of the most damaging and can build mudtubes to infiltrate most parts of a home from underground. All this means that no home, including new structures are safe from termite damages.

Termite Treatments

Termidore Liquid Termiticide

This solution is great for inside and outside application and provides a chemical barrier that prevents termites from entering your home or business. This termiticide is safe for pets and children but is potent enough to kill termites and protect your home or business from termite infestations.

Termite Bait Treatment

Termite bait stations are left in places that are prone to termites. Sentricon provides on-going protection without the need for invasive methods like a full termite fumigation. This chemical bait will be carried back to the termite nest to destroy a colony from the inside out.

Fumigation

For severe infestations, fumigation is the most highly recommended solution for treating termites. This method is designed to permeate all surfaces including the walls, subfloors, and attics of a home to ensure that all termites are eliminated.

Termite Treatment Options

Depending on the severity of your termite infestation, our professional technicians may recommend a fumigation or a local treatment. All of our services are guaranteed to keep your home termite-free.

Fumigation

Fumigation is the most common method of termite extermination. In situations where termites are inaccessible to secondary methods, tenting your home or office is a guaranteed way to eliminate termites. After our technicians have performed a full inspection of your home, we may recommend fumigation to eradicate your termite problem.

Fumigation

Spot Treatment

Local treatment is a great solution for eliminating isolated infestations of termites. Home and business owners who have had fumigation or heat treatments within the past five years may also qualify for local treatment. Termite spot treatments can also be used in commercial buildings and apartment complexes, where moving multiple residents may not be feasible.

Mud Tubes

Subterranean termites enter homes through mud tubes that run up from the foundation.

Swarmers

Winged reproductive termites appear after periods of heavy rain or in late summer / early fall.

Kick Out Holes

As termites tunnel through wood, they use kick out holes to discard fecal pellets and frass.

After reproductive termites mate, they shed their wings typically around doors, windows or attic spaces.

Pellets / Frass

Termites remove waste as they tunnel, creating small mounds of fecal pellets underneath kick out holes.

Drywood Termites

These social insects infest dry wood and do not require contact with the soil like Subterranean termites. Each year, drywood termites cause millions in damages throughout the southwest. If left untreated for a long period of time, they can compromise a building or structure’s safety. Preventing a drywood infestation can be very difficult. Since these termites usually begin their colonies in the wood by flying to the structure, you will have a very tough time keeping them from arriving. Eliminating Drywood Termites really is a job best left to licensed professional pest control companies. Griffin Pest Management offers a variety of drywood termite treatments that include localized spot treatment, fumigation and heat. Griffin also offers wood repairs and restoration to infested areas.

Termite Control FAQs

  • How do you kill termites?

There are 2 primary chemical agents used to kill off termites – Fipronil and hexaflumuron. Fipronil it the primary chemical in most liquid termiticides like termidore which is a common spray used to stop or prevent termites. High enough concentrations will exterminate termites on contact. Hexaflumuron is another termiticide which is commonly found in bait. Termites will carry the poison back to the nest which can wipe out the rest of the colony.

  • How much is pest control for termites?

Termite control services can fluctuate depending on the severity of an infestation, type of treatment, and dimensions of a home. Griffin’s pricing is designed to provide the best value and is competitive. Our pricing generally falls in the range of $218 - $875 for local treatments but can reach and exceed $2500 for full home fumigation depending on the size of home. This is aligned with the national average of $550 for a standard treatment and falls in the typical range between $220 -$950.

  • What is the best method to treat termites?

The best way to treat termites depends on how bad the infestation is. The best treatment is application prior to termites to prevent costly repairs. This can be applied as a topsoil treatment applied to the outside of your home or business. That said, if an infestation has taken hold, it is time for a licensed termite exterminator to determine the best strategy for termite extermination.

  • Can I spray for termites myself?

Preventative do it yourself termite extermination can be implemented by homeowners, but it is important to how to safely use and apply termiticides to keep toxicity levels safe for pets and children. This is why we recommend having one of Griffin’s licensed termite technicians treat your home or business for termites.

  • How does pest control get rid of termites?

Generally, a termite exterminator will treat the exterior of your home or business with a termiticide control agent which eliminates termites on contact. This is especially effective against stopping subterranean termite from ever reaching the foundation of your home or business.

  • Can you see termites?

Termites are visible to the naked eye and swarmers are even bigger. Both can be easily spotted outside of a home or business.

  • Are termites dangerous?

Unlike some other household pests, termites are not dangerous to humans or pets but have been known to sting on rare occasions. The bigger concern is the damage they can incur and any allergies or respiratory problems caused by reactions to termite induced mold or excrement.

  • Are termites hard to get rid of?

Once termites have colonized, they can be difficult to get rid of. Homeowners sometimes try DIY methods of pest control but if some termites remain, there is a strong possibility of termites coming back

  • How serious are termites?

Termites cause billions of dollars of structural damage annually. Termites will often start at a source like tree stumps on the outside of your home or business before moving towards a structure. That said, they can also injure living trees and shrubs which is why we recommend landscaping services to clear out any dead wood that they may feed on.
